Pre-Care Instructions for Kybella Treatment:
- If you have a special event or trip planned, make sure to schedule your treatment at least 2 weeks ahead. You might experience swelling and possibly bruising where you’re getting the treatment.
- Let us know if you’re taking any medications that make bleeding last longer. These could be medications like Coumadin, Plavix, heparin, aspirin, or other blood thinners. They might make you more likely to have bruises where you get the injections. But before stopping any of these medications, consult your main doctor.
- It’s a good idea to stop using certain things like ibuprofen (Advil or Motrin), naproxen (Aleve), gingko biloba, garlic, fish oil, vitamin E, or alcohol at least 3 days to a week before your appointment. If you’re unsure about any medication or supplement not mentioned, give us a call before your appointment.
Post-Care Instructions for Kybella Treatment:
- After your Kybella injections, it’s normal to have swelling, small bleeding points, bruises, and firmness where you got the treatment. Don’t massage or mess with the area. Some small lumps might stay for a few weeks, but they shouldn’t be noticeable.
- You can put ice on the treated area for 15 minutes every hour for the first day to reduce swelling. Sleeping with your treated area elevated can also help.
- Make sure to drink lots of fluids after the treatment.
- Keep avoiding the same medications mentioned in the pre-care instructions (unless your main doctor says it’s okay), as well as NSAIDS and supplements, for at least 3 days up to a week after the treatment.
- If you’re feeling uncomfortable, you can take Tylenol (acetaminophen) during that time.
- Avoid intense exercise for at least 48 hours after the treatment.
- To make bruises look better, you can use Arnica tablets or cream. Eating pineapple might also help since it has something called bromelain that can reduce swelling.
- It might take up to 8 weeks to see the full results after the treatment. Remember to schedule your follow-up or next treatment around that time. Depending on how big the area is, you might need 2-6 treatments for the best results.
- If you notice your smile looks different on one side, your face feels weak, you get a sore on your skin where you got the treatment, or you have trouble swallowing, please call the spa.
